The economy is affecting nearly everyone these days, but local businesses continue to pop up throughout Eastern Idaho.
Those at Sub Zero Ice Cream have a unique approach when it comes to making their ice cream. But the heart of their business isn't only making the sweet snack, it's showing kids something cool can come from science.
Ben Fuhriman, the owner of Sub Zero Ice Cream, said, "I cant speak for other businesses, but it's the community involvement. It's science mixed with ice cream, and we want kids to get excited with science again."
Multiple businesses are moving into Idaho Falls. But with the troubling times the economy is facing, local owners are finding a way to stand out against the competition.
Christopher Balmer said, "We can all be competitive price wise, but it's the service."
Balmer owns another new business, Perfect Light LLC. This new camera and supply store doesn't only sells photography equipment. They hold classes to teach consumers how to use cameras. They've also set up a sort of gallery to display and sell work not only from the professionals, but those taking classes too.
At Sub Zero, competing with the hard hit economy isn't easy, but they're still seeing a lot of customers walking through the door.
Fuhriman said, "People still have to do stuff. They still have to go some where. We as human beings still need that."
Both business owners say the location of their stores definitely helps and hope they can keep up the momentum.
