Four Sub Zero Activities To Keep You Warm This Winter

It seems like just yesterday the kids were getting out of school for summer, and suddenly winter is here. For many of us, that means cold weather and snow. While some of us might be flocking to our fireplaces and bundling up in blankets, others thrive in the cold. Today’s post is directed at those who love everything cold – from liquid nitrogen ice cream to actual ice! Sub Zero Nitrogen Ice Cream is here to offer some winter activity ideas that take “cold” to the next level.

Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream

We promised you extra cold activities, and we weren’t kidding. This is one activity that is literally sub-zero. When we make our customized ice cream at Sub Zero, we blast it with liquid nitrogen that sits at a cool -321 degrees Fahrenheit. This is by far the easiest sub-zero date on our list, so obviously we put it first. Getting ice cream with your sweetheart is a classic date for couples of all ages. Just because it’s cold outside, doesn’t mean that ice cream won’t still warm your soul. Choose flavors that make you excited about winter (we like our Bernoulli Brulee or Banana Cream Pie Bismuth for this), bundle up, and enjoy the happiness that only ice cream can bring! For more fun, take your ice cream to-go and eat it by a roaring fire at home! Find a Sub Zero Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream location near you, and check out these other Ice Cold activities!

Go to an ice bar: Never heard of an ice bar? Don’t think too hard about it – it is exactly what it sounds like. An ice bar is a drinking establishment made almost entirely out of ice. Big cities in America are catching on to these chilly institutions, but they actually aren’t a new concept. Notably, the Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden, has been in operation since 1989 and offers the opportunity for guests to enjoy luxury suites made from ice. They also recently introduced their Icebar. If you’re looking for ice bars stateside, Minus5 Ice Experience is an icy drinking establishment with locations from Las Vegas to New York to Orlando. This particular ice bar even provides gloves and a parka to keep you warm.

Go sledding: What better way to enjoy the snow and cold than flying down a hill on a sled? Find a snowy slope and hold on tight! Whether you use a plastic sled from the store or the makeshift cardboard box, sledding is a great way to spend time out in the cold.

If you live in a region that doesn’t see snow in the winter, never fear. Try ice blocking! This innovative warm-weather sledding technique is pretty much what it sounds like. Start with a block of ice (learn how to make one here), put a towel on the block, hop on, and try not to fall off as you fly down a grassy slope!

Go to Iceland: What better sub-zero activity is there than traveling to a land made of ice? Okay, okay. We know Iceland is not really made of ice, and actually reaches an average summer high temperature of about 58-degrees Fahrenheit. However, during most of the year, the country is well below the freezing point. Tourism in Iceland has steadily become more and more popular in the last ten years, with global visitors increasing three-fold since 2007. Iceland saw nearly 1.5 million visitors last year – which is almost five times more than their total population. What’s a tourist to do in Iceland? Camp under the aurora borealis (the Northern Lights), see whales and puffins, visit natural hot springs and geysers… and that’s only a few of the must-see attractions!
