Sensations sound, well, sensational, but what are they really like? Here’s one perspective that might help make your decision a little easier.
Our feature this week is Peanut Butter Bonds: Peanut Butter and Fudge Ice Cream, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and Brownies.
As I take the first spoonful, I can tell this is a good one to showcase the extra creaminess of nitrogen frozen ice cream. I can actually see how thick and smooth it is. For taste, the peanut butter ice cream is on point. It’s exactly what you would expect from peanut buttery goodness in a frozen dairy form. If I notice the fudge, it’s just enough to enhance the peanut butter taste which is the real star.
I don’t think it would be peanut butter bonds without some classic Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup bit mix-ins. Just like all mix-ins at Sub Zero, they freeze less than the ice cream, so they’re crispy on the outside but mostly a perfect soft peanut butter cup, just the way America has loved it for almost a hundred years. They blend perfectly with the ice cream.
Now, for the brownie bits. Because the Reese’s bits already provide that soft chocolate, and soft things tend to make the ice cream feel richer, the brownie bits are a bit too much for me. I would probably replace them with the lighter taste and texture of chocolate flakes for that flaky chocolate crunch. But, you wouldn’t find a chocolate crunch in a traditional Reese’s. In fact, this is a really good representation of a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup in ice cream form. I can’t deny a classic for my own preferences, but if you like the crunch, like me, it’s a good thing that Sub Zero makes it easy to make simple substitutions. Just ask for Peanut Butter Bonds with chocolate flakes instead of brownie bits.
Bottom line: Peanut Butter Bonds is a perfect Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup in ice cream form.
